In a stunning turn of events, Nepal Police have re-arrested 3,723 inmates who fled from multiple prisons during last week’s explosive anti-government protests, led by the Gen-Z movement. The protests, fueled by outrage over corruption and a controversial social media ban, culminated in vandalism and arson that forced Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli to step down on September 9.
Deputy Inspector General Binod Ghimire, Nepal Police spokesperson, confirmed the re-arrests on Sunday, noting that some escapees returned voluntarily, while others were apprehended with assistance from Indian police near the border. However, a staggering 10,320 prisoners remain at large, prompting authorities to urge citizens to stay vigilant.
A joint operation by the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force is in full swing to track down the remaining fugitives. The nation remains on edge as the manhunt intensifies.
