The bodies of two college students were discovered inside the bathroom of the Swaminarayan Temple complex in Surat, Gujarat, on Saturday, with preliminary investigations suggesting that both deaths were suicides involving poisonous drugs. Authorities recovered a syringe and three bottles of toxic substances near the scene.
According to police, the two girls left home for college on Friday morning but did not return by the afternoon. Their families reported them missing, prompting a search operation. Police traced the girls’ mobile phones to the temple complex, where their scooters were found parked inside the premises.
CCTV footage from the temple complex showed the students entering a bathroom. When police arrived at the location, the door was locked from the inside and had to be forcibly opened. The girls were found deceased, and the syringe and bottles of poisonous drugs were recovered near their bodies.

Further investigation revealed that the students had previously searched online for “How To Commit Suicide” using an artificial intelligence platform. Police said this indicated possible premeditation but stressed that the ongoing probe would determine the full circumstances surrounding their deaths.
The recovered syringe, bottles of drugs, and the girls’ mobile phones have been sent for forensic analysis. Dindoli police have registered a case of accidental death, pending the results of postmortem and toxicology examinations, which will confirm the exact cause of death.
Officials have urged families and communities to remain vigilant regarding mental health issues among young people and emphasized that further details would be released once the forensic and postmortem reports are concluded.
