A fatal road accident on Mumbai’s Marine Drive early Monday claimed the lives of three people after a speeding motorcycle allegedly struck a senior citizen before crashing. Police said the incident occurred around 5:40 a.m. and involved a 19-year-old rider, an 18-year-old pillion passenger, and a 66-year-old pedestrian. Authorities have launched an investigation and said a case related to rash and negligent driving will be registered.
According to preliminary police information, the motorcycle was allegedly being ridden at high speed by Krushna Desai when it hit Kishore Lamne as he was crossing the road. The impact reportedly threw Lamne onto the road, while the rider lost control of the vehicle. Desai and pillion rider Chandani Imam Ali Shaikh also suffered critical injuries in the crash.
All three victims were taken for medical treatment, but later succumbed to their injuries, officials said. The incident has shocked local residents and morning walkers who frequent Marine Drive, one of Mumbai’s busiest and most prominent seafront stretches. Police are examining CCTV footage, witness statements, and other evidence to reconstruct the exact sequence of events.

Investigators are also looking into conflicting accounts regarding the circumstances of the pillion rider’s presence at the scene and the moments leading up to the collision. Families of the deceased have reportedly recounted their final interactions before the crash, adding emotional weight to the ongoing probe. The accident has once again renewed concerns over speeding and road safety in Mumbai, particularly during early morning hours when roads are relatively less congested.
