A 49-year-old resident of south Delhi, Sheikh Akram, was apprehended by police for masterminding and participating in a brazen robbery at a jewellery manufacturing workshop in central Delhi's Karol Bagh area, drawing direct inspiration from the plot of the popular Bollywood film 'Special 26', which depicts a similar con involving fake Income Tax raids.
On the evening of November 27, 2025, a coordinated group of five to six perpetrators forcibly entered the establishment, employing elaborate deception tactics: one individual donned a fabricated Delhi Police uniform while the others presented themselves as legitimate officials from the Income Tax department conducting an authorized search operation.
The assailants systematically confiscated mobile devices belonging to the workshop owner and employees to prevent any immediate alerts, proceeded to execute a thorough but entirely fraudulent inspection of the premises, appropriated approximately 1.1 kilograms of processed gold valuables, and meticulously disabled the surveillance system by removing the CCTV digital video recorder prior to their swift departure.

Following registration of a formal complaint under applicable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, investigative efforts yielded the initial arrest of five accomplices, while Akram—identified as a crucial insider—remained fugitive until December 14, when specialized police teams, acting on precise intelligence, executed a successful raid at a guest house in the CR Park locality and confirmed his identity through combined technical and physical surveillance measures.
Upon sustained interrogation, Akram fully admitted his complicity, revealing that his longstanding employment history within various Karol Bagh jewellery units enabled him to furnish detailed operational insights to the group's orchestrator, a previously apprehended government employee named Parminder, facilitating the meticulously orchestrated counterfeit raid designed for rapid illicit enrichment; authorities subsequently recovered 130.162 grams of the pilfered gold along with the implicated motorcycle, with ongoing operations focused on retrieving the outstanding valuables and uncovering any additional network connections.
