Sonam Raghuvanshi, accused of orchestrating her husband Raja Raghuvanshi’s murder during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, has spent a month in Shillong jail without expressing regret or receiving family visits, sources report. Arrested on June 8, 2025, after surrendering at a Ghazipur dhaba, Sonam, 25, has adapted to prison life, adhering to the jail manual and bonding with fellow inmates.
Housed near the warden’s office with two other undertrial women, Sonam remains silent about her crime, a meticulously planned murder involving her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha, and three hitmen—Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi. The group killed Raja, 29, on May 23, 2025, near Weisawdong Falls, disposing of his body in a gorge, where it was found on June 2. Sonam’s mangalsutra and ring, left at a homestay, and 112 calls with Kushwaha (using a SIM under “Sanjay Verma”) were pivotal in her arrest.
Among 496 inmates, including 20 women, at Shillong jail, Sonam is under CCTV surveillance but has not been assigned tasks like sewing, which may begin soon. She has access to TV but no family contact, as her brother Govind publicly disowned her, aligning with Raja’s family, who demand justice. A Shillong court extended her custody on June 19, with calls for a narco test to uncover the full motive behind the chilling conspiracy.
