The Sabarimala gold theft case is heating up as the special investigation team (SIT) prepares to interrogate additional former Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) officials on October 27 and 28, 2025, in Thiruvananthapuram. Among those summoned are former Sabarimala executive officer D Sudheesh Kumar and former TDB secretary Jayasree, who will face questioning alongside key accused Unnikrishnan Potti, whose police custody ends on October 30. Sources indicate the SIT aims to conduct these interrogations with Potti present to uncover deeper connections.
The probe centers on allegations that Sudheesh and Jayasree assisted arrested former administrative officer Murari Babu in a cover-up. Sudheesh is accused of falsifying records by labeling the gold-plated dwarapalaka idols and door frames as copper sheets, while Jayasree allegedly altered a TDB order to allow Potti to take the sheets for unauthorized repairs. This subterfuge has raised serious questions about the temple’s administrative integrity.
Investigations have revealed that Potti diverted a portion of the funds collected for Sabarimala for personal gain, adding to the scandal’s gravity. The SIT’s intensified efforts signal a push to unravel the full extent of the theft, which involves a reported discrepancy of 4.54 kg of gold from the 2019 re-plating. As the case unfolds, the involvement of senior officials threatens to expose systemic lapses within the TDB, keeping the public and authorities on edge.

With the clock ticking toward Potti’s custody deadline, the interrogations could provide critical breakthroughs in this high-profile case. The focus on former officials underscores the need for accountability, potentially leading to further arrests and reforms at the temple administration, a sacred site that draws millions annually.
