Kochi City Police Commissioner Putta Vimaladitya announced that the investigation into rape allegations against rapper Vedan is “on the right track.” The statement comes amid heightened scrutiny as Vedan, currently absconding, seeks anticipatory bail in the Kerala High Court over accusations of raping a doctor after promising marriage.
Speaking to reporters, Vimaladitya dismissed claims of bias in the investigation, asserting, “We have never favored Vedan. We are actively tracking him down, and the probe is progressing correctly.” He detailed ongoing efforts, including evidence collection and witness interviews, as the Thrikkakara police intensify their search. A lookout notice has been issued, and measures are in place to prevent Vedan from fleeing the country. “There’s no chance he has left India,” the commissioner confirmed.
The case took a new turn with two additional complaints filed against Vedan, accusing him of making sexual advances last week. These complaints, lodged with the Chief Minister’s Office, are under review. “We will verify them and decide on registering cases,” Vimaladitya said, noting that further steps will align with the court’s ruling on Vedan’s bail plea, which is set for reconsideration on Wednesday.

The Kerala High Court, on Tuesday, directed police to refrain from arresting Vedan until the bail hearing concludes, adding a layer of complexity to the manhunt. The allegations stem from a case filed by Thrikkakara police, claiming Vedan raped a doctor under the pretext of marriage. Since the probe began, the rapper has evaded capture, prompting widespread criticism and public attention.
The case has sparked outrage, with many questioning the pace of the investigation and Vedan’s continued absence. As the police tighten their net and the court deliberates, the controversy surrounding the rapper’s alleged crimes continues to grip Kochi, raising broader concerns about accountability and justice in high-profile cases.
