Aditya Sahu was formally elected as the new president of the Jharkhand unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday, succeeding Babulal Marandi, who currently serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly. Sahu, a sitting Rajya Sabha member and former state working president, was chosen unopposed after only one nomination paper was filed for the top post. The election process was overseen by State Election Officer and Union Minister Juel Oran.
Sahu’s political journey began in 1980 as a booth-level worker in Kuchu village, Ranchi. Over the past 46 years, he has remained a committed party functionary, steadily rising through the ranks without aligning himself with any particular faction. He gained valuable organisational experience under the mentorship of prominent leaders, including former MP Ram Tahal Chaudhary, BJP patriarch Kailashpati Mishra from undivided Bihar, and senior Jharkhand figures such as Kariya Munda, Babulal Marandi, Arjun Munda, and Raghubar Das.
Known for his strong connect with grassroots workers, Sahu earned recognition for his effective leadership as in-charge of the Palamu Division, where he contributed significantly to the party’s electoral successes. His ability to maintain cordial relations across different sections of the organisation and his long-standing dedication have made him widely respected within the state unit. The BJP highlighted his elevation as a testament to the party’s belief that even a booth-level worker can ascend to lead at the state or national level.

The election also saw 21 nomination papers filed and accepted for the 21 seats on the National Council. The list of elected members includes several prominent names such as Kariya Munda, Arjun Munda, Raghubar Das, Champai Soren, Madhu Koda, Sanjay Seth, Annapurna Devi, Abhaykant Prasad, Yadunath Pandey, Pashupati Nath Singh, Ravindra Kumar Rai, Dineshanand Goswami, Deepak Prakash, Pradeep Verma, Samir Oraon, Anant Ojha, Geeta Koda, Amar Kumar Bauri, Neelkanth Singh Munda, Bhanu Pratap Shahi, and Jitu Charan Ram.
Sahu’s appointment comes at a critical juncture for the BJP in Jharkhand as the party prepares to strengthen its organisational structure and position itself strategically ahead of future electoral battles. His extensive experience at the grassroots level and proven track record in mobilising workers are expected to play a key role in revitalising the state unit’s outreach and performance in the coming years.
