Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday inaugurated the Indian Navy’s memorial museum, Nausena Shaurya Vatika, in Lucknow, describing it as a symbol of national pride that showcases the valour, service, and maritime legacy of the armed forces.
The memorial, developed over two acres near the Ekana Cricket Stadium, forms Phase-II of the Nausena Shaurya Sangrahalaya project. It has been designed to highlight the Indian Navy’s operational history, technological progress, and contributions to safeguarding the country’s maritime borders. Officials said the site aims to bring naval heritage closer to the public and inspire younger generations.
Speaking at the inauguration, Rajnath Singh said such institutions play a key role in connecting citizens with India’s military history and reinforcing a sense of patriotism. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also addressed the event, suggesting that military equipment such as tanks that played a role in past wars should be displayed at prominent public locations across the state. He said such installations would encourage youth to understand and respect the armed forces while fostering national pride.
The chief minister also referred to the installation of INS Gomti, a decommissioned naval ship, at the site along the banks of the Gomti river. He said the initiative would serve as an educational attraction, offering visitors insight into India’s naval history and encouraging them to draw inspiration from the armed forces’ service.
Chief of Naval Staff Dinesh Tripathi, speaking on the broader strategic context, highlighted the importance of maritime security amid global geopolitical tensions. He noted that India’s economic growth and future development are closely linked to secure sea routes, with the Navy playing a critical role in ensuring the safety of maritime trade and strategic waterways.
