A chilling incident unfolded in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district as Aachki Devi, a 22-year-old woman from Shri Ram Colony, allegedly killed her 17-day-old daughter by throwing her into a water tank on Sunday, driven by frustration over not bearing a son. Kotwali Station House Officer Narayan Singh confirmed the horrific act, stating that Devi confessed to the crime, admitting she closed the tank’s lid after the act, resulting in the infant’s death.
Police reports indicate Devi informed an acquaintance about the incident, prompting her husband to file a complaint. “She wanted a son but delivered a daughter, which led her to commit this act,” Singh said. A murder case was registered under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, and Devi was arrested this morning. She was produced before a local court, which remanded her to judicial custody later that day.
The case, reported today, has shocked the community, spotlighting deep-seated gender biases. Investigations continue as police probe further motives, with the infant’s body sent for postmortem to confirm the cause of death.
