A shocking incident unfolded in Gujarat’s Vadodara when a woman employed with the Indian Railways allegedly killed her fiancee following a dispute at Railway Colony, police said on Saturday. The accused, Rekha Rathwa, and the victim, Sachin Rathwa, had been in a live-in relationship for three years after meeting on Instagram.
According to investigators, the couple frequently argued due to Sachin’s doubts over Rekha’s character. The situation escalated on December 30, 2025, when Sachin expressed his desire to call off their marriage. Rekha allegedly strangled Sachin with her dupatta in a fit of rage during the argument.
After the attack, Rekha reportedly told family members that Sachin was simply unresponsive. He was rushed to Sayaji Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. A postmortem revealed marks on his neck, raising suspicion that he had been strangled.

Initially, Rekha attempted to mislead authorities by portraying the incident as an accidental death. However, police investigations—including crime scene analysis, technical evidence, and circumstantial findings—shifted suspicion toward her. Following rigorous interrogation, Rekha confessed to the murder.
F Division ACP Pranav Kataria confirmed that no one else was involved in the killing, though investigations continue to ensure all angles are covered. A formal murder case has been registered against Rekha Rathwa.
This tragic incident highlights the potential dangers of insecurity, suspicion, and poor conflict resolution in intimate relationships. Authorities have urged people to exercise caution in handling disputes, especially in live-in or close personal relationships.
