Pune police raided a studio apartment in the upscale Kharadi area early Sunday, seizing drugs, liquor, and hookah setups at an alleged rave party. Acting on a tip-off, the Crime Branch detained seven individuals—five men and two women—following the operation.
Among the detained is Pranjal Khewalkar, husband of NCP (SP) leader Rohini Khadse-Khewalkar, daughter of former Maharashtra minister Eknath Khadse. Narcotics, including cocaine and marijuana, were confiscated during the raid. “We received intelligence about a rave party and acted swiftly,” said a senior police official. Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar confirmed Khewalkar’s detention, adding that his arrest is imminent.
The raid, conducted around 3 a.m., has sparked controversy due to the political connection. Authorities are registering a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The investigation continues to determine the extent of the drug use and the event’s organization. This bust underscores Pune’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal rave parties in upscale neighborhoods.
