The Delhi Police has filed a 973-page chargesheet against Rahul Meena, a former domestic help accused of raping and murdering the 22-year-old daughter of a senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, in a city court. According to police sources, the chargesheet details the sequence of events leading to the alleged crime and includes forensic evidence, witness statements and other material collected during the investigation. Police have alleged that Meena entered the victim’s house in the early hours of April 22 using prior knowledge of a spare key while she was alone.
The accused, who had earlier worked as domestic help at the residence, allegedly committed the crime after being dismissed from service in February over financial misconduct. The victim, an IIT graduate who was preparing for the Civil Services examination, was found unconscious by her parents when they returned from the gym around 8 am. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead. According to the chargesheet, police have alleged that Meena raped the woman and strangled her with a mobile phone charging cable after she resisted his alleged demand for money.
Investigators claimed that he then stole cash estimated between ₹2 lakh and ₹2.5 lakh, changed into the victim’s brother’s clothes and fled from the spot. The police have cited forensic evidence as a key part of the case. Sources said fingerprints, palm prints and thumb impressions recovered from the crime scene matched those of the accused. Investigators also stated that Meena’s DNA matched samples collected from the victim’s body.

The chargesheet includes a list of 82 witnesses who are expected to help establish the sequence of events before the court. Meena was arrested from a hotel in Dwarka on the same day after CCTV footage allegedly showed him entering the residential complex at around 6:30 am and leaving at approximately 7:20 am. Police said the footage, along with other evidence, helped trace his movements after the alleged incident. During interrogation, Meena allegedly told investigators that he had gone to the house “just to ask for money” and that the crime “just happened”, according to a senior police officer.
Police also claimed that the accused had a gambling habit and accumulated debts of around ₹5 lakh to ₹7 lakh through online gaming applications, which may have been a motive behind the demand for money. The victim’s father is a senior IRS officer, while her mother is a dentist. The case had drawn widespread attention due to the nature of the crime and the background of the victim, who was pursuing a career in public service. The chargesheet will now be examined by the court, which will decide the next stage of proceedings, including consideration of the evidence presented by the prosecution. The accused will have the opportunity to respond to the allegations as the legal process moves forward.
