On the 26th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu paid tribute to the Indian soldiers who displayed unparalleled courage during the 1999 Kargil War. Celebrated annually on July 26, the day marks India’s victory over Pakistani intruders who had occupied strategic positions in Kargil’s mountains, aiming to disrupt the Kashmir-Ladakh link.
Modi hailed the soldiers’ “unparalleled courage and valour,” stating their sacrifices to defend India’s pride continue to inspire generations. In a post on X, Murmu echoed this, calling Kargil Vijay Diwas a symbol of the jawans’ “extraordinary valour, courage, and steadfast determination.” She added, “Their supreme sacrifice for the motherland will forever inspire its citizens. Jai Hind! Jai Bharat!”
The Indian Army’s “Operation Vijay” culminated on July 26, 1999, after nearly three months of intense combat in Ladakh’s icy heights, securing a historic triumph.
