A private tutor in Delhi’s Chittaranjan Park (CR Park) was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly raping a 15-year-old student over three years, sending shockwaves through the local community. The accused, a man in his 40s who taught science and mathematics at his home-based tuition center, faces charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following a complaint by the girl’s father.
The abuse reportedly began in 2022 when the girl, then in Class 8, enrolled in the tutor’s classes. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the assaults took place repeatedly at the tuition center, located near the victim’s home. The tutor, a neighbor known to the family, allegedly exploited this familiarity to perpetrate the crime, using mental harassment and emotional blackmail to keep the girl silent. The ordeal continued until February 26, 2025, when the minor confided in her family, prompting swift action.
The Delhi Police registered a case under Section 6 of the POCSO Act for aggravated penetrative sexual assault and Section 64 of the BNS for rape. The accused was arrested and is under interrogation, with investigators probing whether other students were targeted. The victim, deeply traumatized, is receiving counseling, while her family grapples with the betrayal of trust.
The incident has sparked outrage in CR Park, with parents pulling students from the tutor’s classes and demanding stricter oversight of private tuition centers. This case highlights the vulnerability of children in such settings and raises questions about safety protocols. As the investigation unfolds, it serves as a grim reminder of the need for vigilance and accountability to protect young learners from predators hiding in plain sight.
