Mumbai bid a vibrant, rain-soaked adieu to Lord Ganesh on Saturday, as massive processions filled the streets with dhol-tasha rhythms, gulal showers, and devotional fervor on Anant Chaturdashi, concluding the 10-day Ganpati festival. Despite light to moderate showers since morning, thousands braved the weather, lining roads, balconies, terraces, and even trees to witness the grand immersions at beaches and water bodies.
By noon, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported 405 idols immersed in natural sites and artificial ponds, including 11 from public mandals. Central Mumbai's Lalbaug area buzzed with activity as processions kicked off with idols from Tejukaya, Ganesh Gully, and others. Iconic mandals like Lalbaugcha Raja, Chinchpoklicha Chintamani, Ballaleshwar of Bal Ganesh Mandal, Mumbaicha Raja of Ganesh Galli, Mahaganapati of Kalachowki, Rangari Badak Chawl Ganapati, and Tejukaya Ganapati reached main routes by 1 pm.
Highlights included traditional rangolis on rain-slicked roads and the spectacular "Pushpavrishti" (flower shower) at Shroff Building in Lalbaug, featuring a Rafale aircraft model on ropes. The Seva Sadan Mandal incorporated an "Abhijat Marathi" theme to celebrate Marathi's new classical language status. Rangari Badak Chawl's procession led the flower showers, followed by Cotton Green cha Raja.
