A 27-year-old man, Vikas, was brutally bludgeoned to death with a brick by his brother-in-law, Akash, in Ahaida village, Baghpat, on Monday, following a heated family dispute, police said Tuesday. Vikas, who ran a police uniform shop near the SP office, had accompanied his wife, Arti, to her parental home in Nangla Badi village to mediate an ongoing conflict between Arti and Akash, stemming from their intercaste love marriage two years ago.
According to Inspector Kailash Chand, Station House Officer at Khekra police station, tensions escalated during the reconciliation attempt. “Akash allegedly attacked Vikas with a brick, leading to his death,” Chand stated. The intercaste marriage had long strained relations between the families, fueling the altercation.
Based on a complaint filed by Arti, an FIR has been lodged against Akash, Arti’s sister-in-law Nidhi, her sister Ankita, and a neighbor, Vijay, under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police are actively pursuing Akash, the prime accused, and the other named individuals, who remain at large. Vikas’s body has been sent for post-mortem, and investigations are ongoing to uncover further details.
