Navi Mumbai police arrested 30-year-old Mohit Virendra Singh, a resident of Ulwe, on Friday for allegedly raping a woman multiple times since February 2025 under the pretext of marriage. The accused befriended the victim, sexually assaulted her repeatedly, and coerced her into terminating a pregnancy, a senior police official from Ulwe police station said.
Singh allegedly recorded objectionable photos and videos of the victim and manipulated her into signing a joint affidavit of marriage, claiming it prevented her from filing a case against him. The victim, a 28-year-old local resident, lodged a complaint after Singh reneged on his promise, police said.
A case has been registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 64 (rape), 64(2)(d) (aggravated rape), 69 (sexual intercourse by deceit), 75 (sexual harassment), and 89 (causing miscarriage without consent). Singh is in custody, and investigations are ongoing to verify the affidavit and recover digital evidence.
