A madrassa principal was arrested in Kushinagar district for allegedly luring a 15-year-old boy, converting him to another religion, and enrolling him under a changed name, officials confirmed on Tuesday. The case emerged after the boy's father, recently released from jail, confronted staff at the madrassa in Kohargaddi village under Khadda police station.
According to the complaint filed by the boy's mother, Rabri Devi, principal Mujiburrahman enticed her son, Vipin Kushwaha, with offers of free food, clothes, and education, leading to his conversion and renaming as Noor Alam. She alleged that when she demanded his return, the principal abused and threatened her. The boy had initially visited the madrassa for faith healing and later stayed there, developing ties with a local girl.
Khadda Station House Officer Girijesh Upadhyay stated that a case was registered on Monday under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act, 2021. Mujiburrahman, a resident of Maharajganj district, was apprehended, and the boy was recovered. Police have arrested 22 individuals in related matters, including two FIRs linked to the incident.
