The Kerala government has announced a vibrant week-long Onam celebration starting September 3, with Thiruvonam, the pinnacle of the harvest festival, set for September 5. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan finalized the schedule during a high-level meeting, directing all departments to collaborate for a grand and inclusive event, according to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).
Organized by the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC), the festivities will transform the Kowdiar to Manacaud stretch in Thiruvananthapuram into a dazzling festival zone, adorned with bright lights and adhering to Kerala’s eco-friendly green protocol. The celebrations will culminate in a spectacular cultural procession in the capital, showcasing the state’s rich heritage.
Kudumbashree, Kerala’s all-women network, will lead Onam fairs at the district level, cultivating vegetables and flowers to ensure fresh supplies before the festival. The state-run Supplyco will host Onam fairs at district, taluk, and mandalam levels, while Horticorp outlets will boost vegetable availability. Additionally, “Onam kits” with essential provisions will be distributed both online and offline, ensuring accessibility for all.
