Yash and Tarun, the sons of Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor brutally murdered in Udaipur in June 2022, attended the premiere of Udaipur Files, a film depicting their father’s tragic death, at a local cinema hall. The theater reserved a seat in tribute to Kanhaiya Lal, placing his photograph between his sons, a poignant gesture that underscored the family’s ongoing grief. As the film’s harrowing reenactment of their father’s beheading unfolded, the brothers were visibly emotional, shedding tears in memory of the horrific incident.
Directed by Bharat S. Shrinate and featuring actors Vijay Raaz and Preeti Jhangiani, Udaipur Files portrays the chilling murder of Kanhaiya Lal, who was hacked to death in his shop in Udaipur’s Hathipole area by two men wielding a cleaver, allegedly over his support for a social media post deemed offensive. The incident, which shocked the nation, is under investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Speaking after the screening, one of the sons stated, “After a long struggle, the movie is finally out. For three years, we have been fighting for justice, but we have not received it yet. We hope the people of India will support us to ensure the accused are punished swiftly.” The audience echoed their sentiments, voicing demands for justice and solidarity with the grieving family.
The film’s release has reignited public attention on the case, amplifying the family’s plea for closure.
