In a major breakthrough, Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested interstate drug kingpin Dhani Ram from Salooni village in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district on Monday, dealing a significant blow to a long-running drug trafficking network.
Ram, wanted in a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Chenani police station in Udhampur, was tracked down by a specialized Udhampur police team. “Technical, financial, and oral evidence confirmed his involvement in drug trafficking for over a decade,” a police spokesperson said. Marking a legal milestone, authorities invoked Section 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in an NDPS case for the first time, underscoring the severity of Ram’s activities.
In a separate operation, Kathua police arrested drug peddler Ashiq Ali from Ladwal village during a checkpoint at Link Road Khanpur in Marheen, seizing 6.99 grams of heroin. Ali was booked under the NDPS Act, with investigations ongoing.
