A dispute over a broken relationship between two families in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur district escalated into violent clashes, arson, and large-scale vandalism, leaving the area tense and prompting police action against multiple individuals. The incident occurred late Friday night in Majhauli, located around 48 km from Jabalpur city, and involved members of two local families.
According to police officials, the conflict began after a young man and a woman from the area were in a relationship for some time. However, the woman later refused to marry him, stating that she would make any marital decision only with her family’s consent. The situation became more complicated when her marriage was reportedly fixed with another person from a different family.
Police said the young man allegedly reacted by sending photographs and messages related to the woman to the family of her prospective groom, which led to the cancellation of the arranged alliance. This development further escalated tensions between the two sides and deepened the ongoing dispute.

Attempts were later made by members of the Saraf and Tiwari families to resolve the issue through discussions. However, the meeting reportedly failed to reach any understanding and instead worsened the situation, eventually triggering a violent confrontation between the groups.
The confrontation soon turned destructive, with reports of vehicles being set on fire and clashes involving sticks and other makeshift weapons. The violence caused significant damage to property and heightened fear among local residents, who alerted authorities after the situation spiralled out of control.
Police have registered cases against around 16 individuals in connection with the incident and launched an investigation into the violence. Officials said efforts are underway to identify all those involved and take strict legal action, while additional security has been deployed in the area to prevent further escalation.
