Iran’s Ambassador to India Mohammad Fathali has attributed the reported attack near Kuwait International Airport to a malfunction of US-made defence systems, rejecting allegations that Iranian missiles were responsible for the incident. His remarks come amid rising regional tensions and conflicting accounts surrounding the Wednesday incident in which an Indian national was killed and several others were injured.
According to Fathali, assessments conducted by Iranian military experts indicate that no Iranian missiles were launched toward Kuwait Airport. He claimed instead that the damage resulted from a failure of US-supplied Patriot air defence systems, suggesting that interceptor missiles fell onto the terminal after failing to intercept projectiles targeted elsewhere.
The Iranian envoy maintained that Iran continues to respect its commitment to sovereignty and self-defence, but warned that it would respond to any perceived aggression. He reiterated that Iran reserves the right to use all available capabilities to counter attacks against its territory or interests, framing its position as defensive in nature.

Addressing allegations of Iranian involvement in the Kuwait airport incident, Fathali dismissed visual evidence circulating online as inconsistent with the timeline of events. He argued that video footage showing daytime conditions contradicts the reported timing of the incident, which he said occurred under cover of darkness during separate military exchanges in the region.
The ambassador also broadened his remarks to regional security issues, stating that Iran supports dialogue and diplomacy while reserving the right to respond to what it considers violations of international law. He emphasised that Iran has consistently denied initiating conflict and instead advocates negotiated solutions to ongoing disputes.
Fathali further reiterated Iran’s broader foreign policy stance, stating that lasting peace and stability in the region can only be achieved through respect for international law and equal dialogue among nations. He said Iran remains open to diplomatic engagement but will continue to defend its national interests amid what it describes as escalating external pressure.
