A 30-year-old IPS officer has been booked for allegedly raping a 28-year-old woman doctor in Nagpur after promising marriage, police confirmed Sunday. The case, filed at Imamwada Police Station on Saturday, stems from a complaint lodged by the doctor on Friday, exposing a relationship that soured after deceit.
The complainant met the accused on Instagram in November 2022, when he was preparing for UPSC exams and she was pursuing her MBBS.
Their chats evolved into phone calls, fostering a friendship. The officer, after pledging marriage, engaged in a physical relationship with her, police said. However, after securing his IPS position, he began dodging her, ultimately refusing to marry her. His family also ignored her pleas, leaving her distressed.
