Social media influencer Orhan Awatramani, popularly known as Orry, has been booked along with seven others for allegedly consuming alcohol at a hotel in Katra, the base camp for the Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage, the Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Monday.
The incident occurred on March 15, when a complaint was filed with the Katra Police Station stating that a group of guests was found drinking liquor inside the hotel premises, violating strict regulations that prohibit alcohol and non-vegetarian food in the vicinity of the revered shrine. An FIR (No. 72/25) was subsequently registered against Orry and his companions—Darshan Singh, Parth Raina, Ritick Singh, Rashi Dutta, Rakshita Bhogal, Shagun Kohli, and Anastasila Arzamaskina.
A police official confirmed, "Orhan Awatramani and others consumed liquor despite being informed that it was strictly prohibited. This act has hurt the sentiments of the people."
Taking cognizance of the matter, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Reasi, Paramvir Singh, directed officials to take swift action. "Sensing the gravity of the situation, strict instructions were issued to nab the miscreants and uphold a policy of zero tolerance toward such acts at religious places," Singh stated.
Meanwhile, Orry, known for his high-profile social media presence, recently shared a video on Instagram, allegedly showcasing a party scene with alcohol bottles visible in the background. The clip has further fueled public outrage.
A special police team, supervised by SP Katra, SDPO Katra, and SHO Katra, has been tasked with tracking down those involved. Authorities have reiterated that violations of religious sanctity will not be tolerated, emphasizing strict action against those who disrupt public peace through alcohol or drug-related offenses.
