Sarvesh Kushare added another international medal to his growing collection by winning silver in the men’s high jump at the 2026 Asian Games. He cleared 2.25 metres to finish second in Japan, continuing an impressive year that has already seen him win a Commonwealth Games silver and set a new national record. The medal also marked a significant improvement from his fourth-place finish at the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou.
Kushare’s journey to the Asian Games podium has been built through years of steady progress in Indian athletics. He began his high jump career under coach R W Jadhav and gradually established himself among the country’s leading jumpers. His performances at domestic competitions helped him earn opportunities on the international stage, where he began competing against some of the best athletes in the world.
A major breakthrough came in 2023 when Kushare won silver at the Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok. The result helped him qualify for the World Athletics Championships in Budapest and marked an important step in his international career. He later represented India at the Paris 2024 Olympics, gaining further experience at one of the biggest sporting events in the world.

Kushare continued to make history at the 2025 World Athletics Championships, where he finished sixth in the men’s high jump. The result became India’s best-ever finish in the event at the World Championships. Rather than stopping there, Kushare continued to raise his level and produced another landmark performance in 2026.
At the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships in 2026, Kushare cleared 2.31 metres to set a new Indian national record and became the first Indian high jumper to cross the 2.30-metre barrier. He followed that achievement with a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, further establishing himself as one of India’s most consistent international field athletes.
His latest silver in Japan adds another chapter to a career defined by gradual progress and repeated breakthroughs. Kushare has moved from an emerging domestic athlete to a national-record holder and regular international medallist, overcoming the disappointment of narrowly missing the podium at the previous Asian Games. With major medals and record-breaking performances now part of his career, his journey represents the continued rise of Indian high jump on the international stage.
