Cyberabad police have uncovered and dismantled a major illegal human egg trading and commercial surrogacy operation in Hyderabad, arresting a 45-year-old woman and her 27-year-old son for running a network that exploited childless couples and financially vulnerable women for profit. The illicit racket, exposed during a raid on Friday, involved seven women and a man allegedly working in collusion with several fertility centers, according to authorities.
Following credible intelligence, a special police team, accompanied by the District Medical and Health Officer, raided a premises under Pet-Basheerabad Police Station, apprehending the two primary suspects. The investigation revealed that the woman, previously an egg donor and surrogate mother herself, used her connections with fertility clinics and other agents to recruit women as egg donors or surrogates. She earned significant fees for each procedure and charged hospitals additional costs for housing the women at her residence.
Her son, a Chemical Engineering graduate, assisted in managing the illegal operation, which served as their main source of income. Police noted that the involved donors and surrogate mothers were aware of the legal ban on commercial surrogacy but participated for financial gain.
