The final phone call of Delhi Police Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) commando Kajal Chaudhary has revealed chilling details of the moments before her death, as her brother helplessly heard her being assaulted by her husband. Kajal, 27, was allegedly beaten and struck on the head with a dumbbell by her husband, Ankur, during a domestic dispute on January 22, police and family members said.
According to Kajal’s brother Nikhil, a constable posted at Parliament Street Police Station, Ankur called him while attacking Kajal and made explicit threats. Nikhil said he heard his sister screaming as Ankur allegedly told him to keep the call recorded as “evidence” and declared that he was killing her. The call disconnected abruptly, leaving Nikhil unable to intervene.
Minutes later, Ankur allegedly called again and informed the family that Kajal was dead, asking them to come to the hospital. The family rushed to a hospital in Ghaziabad, where Kajal was taken after the assault. She succumbed to her injuries on January 27, five days after the incident, officials said. Ankur, a clerk with the Ministry of Defence posted in Delhi Cantonment, was arrested shortly after her death.

Police said the incident occurred between 10 and 10:30 pm at the couple’s rented residence in Mohan Garden Extension in West Delhi. Kajal, who was four months pregnant at the time, allegedly suffered severe head injuries and multiple other wounds. A case of murder has been registered based on the complaint and findings of the investigation.
Family members have alleged that Kajal faced persistent dowry harassment and domestic abuse after her marriage in November 2023. Her parents claimed they had provided cash, jewellery, and a motorcycle at the wedding, but demands continued, leading to frequent disputes over money and household matters. Nikhil also alleged that Kajal had been physically assaulted earlier and was forced to manage household chores even during pregnancy.
Kajal and Ankur had met during their college years in Panipat and later moved to Delhi after repeated disagreements at their native place in Haryana. The couple’s one-and-a-half-year-old son is currently in the care of Kajal’s maternal grandparents, as the family seeks justice for what they describe as a brutal and premeditated act of domestic violence.
