In a shocking incident in Odisha’s Jajpur district, three individuals, including a hockey coach and two former coaches, were arrested on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, for their alleged involvement in the rape of a 15-year-old hockey trainee. The crime came to light after the minor filed a complaint at Jajpur Town Police Station on Monday, detailing her ordeal from July 3, when she was allegedly abducted while returning home from training and sexually assaulted in a lodge.
Jajpur Superintendent of Police Yashpratap Shrimal confirmed the arrests, stating, “One coach raped the girl, and two others assisted in the crime.” A fourth detainee was released due to insufficient evidence, but investigations continue. The survivor, who has been training at Jajpur’s hockey stadium for two years, alleged that her coach and his associates threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident.
The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 6 (rape) of the POCSO Act. The minor underwent a medical examination on Monday, and tests for the accused are underway. The survivor’s statement has been recorded before the district court, and the accused will be presented in court on Tuesday.
