Four men were arrested in Faridabad for allegedly firing at a resident’s car and demanding Rs 5 lakh in an extortion attempt, police said Wednesday. The suspects, identified as Devendra alias Kalu (36), Monu (23), Bunty (28), and Uday (20), all from Tirkha Colony in Ballabgarh, were remanded to four days in custody after appearing in court. Authorities also seized their car.
The incident occurred on July 27 when Mayank, from Arya Nagar, reported hearing a gunshot outside his home. He discovered a bullet hole in his car’s driver-side window. Soon after, his brother received a WhatsApp message from Devendra demanding Rs 5 lakh and threatening Mayank’s life if unpaid. Police filed an FIR at City Ballabgarh station and apprehended the suspects Monday night.
“Interrogation revealed Bunty fired the shot, using a weapon supplied by Devendra,” a police spokesperson said. The group admitted to driving to Mayank’s house, shooting at his car, and fleeing. Devendra, the alleged mastermind, has a criminal history and was released from jail in February 2025. Police are verifying the other suspects’ records.
