A shocking betrayal unfolded at a hotel in central Delhi’s Paharganj when Pardeep Kumar, a gold trader from Amritsar, was robbed of 1,340 grams of gold jewellery worth over ₹13 lakh by his friend Prabh Singh. The incident, reported on July 8, 2025, involved Singh allegedly spiking Kumar’s meal with drugs, causing him to lose consciousness, before fleeing with the valuables.
According to Kumar’s complaint, the duo, both Amritsar residents, checked into a double room at the hotel after arriving in Delhi for a lucrative deal with a client. Singh suggested dining at a nearby hotel known for its “Delhi Ki Dal,” which police suspect was laced with sedatives. Kumar awoke the next morning to find Singh and the jewellery gone.
Delhi Police have registered a case under Sections 123 (causing hurt by poison with intent to commit an offence) and 305(a) (theft in a dwelling house) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. “Efforts are underway to trace the accused,” said DCP (Central) Nidhin Valsan, adding that CCTV footage and hotel staff interrogations are aiding the investigation. Singh, also a gold trader, remains absconding.
