According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Ganga Nagar) Kuldeep Gunawat, the SUV had broken down and was parked on the roadside. Four occupants—Suresh Saini, Suresh Bajpai, his wife, and Ramsagar Awasthi, all Kanpur residents—were sleeping outside the vehicle, while three women rested inside when the accident happened. The impact was fatal for the four outside, and the three injured women were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
A 60-year-old passenger, Prem Narayan, narrowly escaped and later identified the victims. Police are actively searching for the driver of the unidentified vehicle, which fled the scene. Efforts are underway to trace the vehicle using CCTV footage and witness accounts, Gunawat added.
