The incident, which unfolded on July 28, 2025, has sparked debates about civic enforcement and community tensions.
The confrontation occurred on a plot of land opposite the Rabale police station, allegedly occupied by a group of 10 to 12 transgender persons. When NMMC’s anti-encroachment team, accompanied by police, arrived to clear the site, the situation escalated. According to a Rabale police official, the group engaged in a heated argument, used abusive language, and physically pushed civic and police personnel. They also allegedly made provocative gestures, blocked traffic, and hindered the officials from performing their duties.
The five individuals were detained for questioning at the Rabale police station, where they reportedly continued to abuse security personnel. A case was registered against them under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Mumbai Police Act. The police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
