A tragic incident unfolded in Hyderabad as a 19-year-old engineering student from Adilabad district allegedly took his own life in a private hostel in Narapally, following harassment over a financial dispute. According to police reports, the student died by hanging on Sunday night, and authorities have clarified that the case does not involve ragging.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the incident stemmed from a dispute at a bar, where the student and a group of friends argued over splitting a bill. The disagreement escalated into an altercation, during which the student was reportedly assaulted by local youths.
In a distressing video recorded before his death, the student claimed that certain individuals demanded money, threatened him, and subjected him to insults and physical assault. He alleged that he was coerced into consuming alcohol and forced to pay a bill of Rs 10,000.
Following a complaint by the student’s father, the Hyderabad police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for abetment of suicide and extortion, as well as relevant sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The investigation is ongoing to uncover further details and ensure justice for the victim.
This heartbreaking incident underscores the urgent need to address issues of harassment and coercion among youth, highlighting the devastating consequences of such disputes.
