The Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched raids on Friday at eight locations tied to close aides of former Congress MLA Amba Prasad from Jharkhand’s Barkagaon Assembly constituency, intensifying an ongoing money laundering investigation.
The probe centers on a prominent company involved in coal transportation, infrastructure, and the power sector, with searches conducted simultaneously in Ranchi, Hazaribagh, and Barkagaon. Key targets included the residence of Amba Prasad’s aide Sanjeet in Kishoreganj, Ranchi, and the homes of her personal assistants—Sanjeev Sao, Manoj Dangi, and Pancham Kumar—in Barkagaon.
A significant security presence was deployed at all raided premises, signaling the operation’s scale. The ED’s actions follow a similar crackdown from March 12-14, 2024, which targeted Amba Prasad, her father and former minister Yogendra Sao, her brother Ankit Raj, and other associates. Those raids uncovered Rs 35 lakh in cash, digital devices, fake stamps from banks and government offices, handwritten receipts, diaries, and other incriminating evidence.

Sources indicate that Friday’s searches build on leads from the earlier raids, with the ED now scrutinizing documents related to financial transactions, land deals, and mining activities. Ten companies allegedly registered in the names of Amba Prasad and her family are under investigation for their role in the suspected money laundering scheme. The agency previously questioned Amba Prasad, Yogendra Sao, and Ankit Raj at its Ranchi zonal office in connection with the case.
Amba Prasad, elected to the Jharkhand Assembly in 2019 on a Congress ticket, hails from a politically influential family. Both her parents, Yogendra Sao and Nirmala Devi, have previously represented Barkagaon. The ED’s latest move has reignited speculation about the family’s business dealings, with the agency reportedly probing deeper into allegations of illicit financial activities tied to coal and infrastructure contracts.
