A significant breakthrough in the fight against narcotics trafficking unfolded on Tuesday, March 25, as the Agra-based Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) arrested a drug smuggler in Mathura, seizing drugs valued at approximately Rs 3 crore.
The operation, executed near a warehouse, led to the recovery of 1.62 kg of heroin and 469 grams of smack from the suspect, identified as Mohammad Gayas Ansari, a resident of Daulatpur village in Bihar’s Jamui district.
Superintendent of Police (City) Dr. Arvind Kumar revealed that the ANTF acted on precise intelligence indicating that Ansari was transporting a large consignment of heroin and smack through Mathura.
“The market value of the seized drugs is around Rs 3 crore,” Kumar stated, adding that Ansari intended to supply the narcotics in Mathura before heading to Delhi. Police investigations uncovered that Ansari has been a habitual trafficker, sourcing heroin from Bihar and distributing it across Delhi, Faridabad, Rohtak, and nearby areas, with a history of 40-50 such deliveries.
The arrest underscores Uttar Pradesh’s intensified crackdown on drug smuggling networks, with the ANTF and local police collaborating to dismantle inter-state operations.
Ansari now faces charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act as authorities probe deeper into his supply chain.
