Assam police seized banned Yaba tablets worth over Rs 5 crore in Sribhumi district on August 20, 2025, and arrested two individuals involved in the illegal trade. The operation, conducted at Puwamara bypass, was hailed as a significant victory in the fight against synthetic drugs in the region.
Acting on precise intelligence, Sribhumi police intercepted a smuggling attempt, recovering 29,400 Yaba tablets—containing methamphetamine and caffeine, classified as a Schedule II substance under India’s Controlled Substances Act. The arrested individuals, identified as Munin Ahmed, 32, and Salman Ahmed, 28, both residents of Kanishail locality in Sribhumi, are now in custody and undergoing interrogation. Authorities are probing their connections to uncover potential links to interstate drug networks and dismantle the broader supply chain.
This seizure follows another major operation on August 19, when Sribhumi police confiscated a large consignment of Yaba tablets valued at several crores in the same Puwamara bypass area, indicating a sustained effort to curb drug trafficking in the region. Chief Minister Sarma emphasized that necessary legal procedures have been initiated against the accused, signaling a zero-tolerance approach to narcotics.
