A 65-year-old woman was found murdered in her home in KAS Colony, BTM Layout 2nd Stage, Bengaluru, while her domestic worker was later discovered dead in an apparent suicide, police said. Preliminary findings suggest the domestic help sexually assaulted and killed the woman before taking his own life.
The victim, Savitha Shankar, was alone at the time; her husband was away in Dubai, and their 27-year-old daughter was asleep upstairs. The crime is believed to have occurred around midnight on Saturday, but it went unnoticed until early Sunday morning when the husband returned and discovered the bodies.
The suspect, Devaraju, a 50-year-old domestic worker from Hosur, Tamil Nadu, had been employed at the Shankar residence. According to police, the daughter, asleep on the first floor, was unaware of the events downstairs, and only the father discovered the scene after returning home.
