The Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested a man in connection with a cyber harassment and criminal intimidation case after he sent a series of hoax bomb threat emails to senior police officials across several states. The emails targeted the Commissioners of Police in Delhi, Bengaluru, and Rajasthan, as well as multiple police control room units.
The emails, designed in an extortion-style format, warned of potential bomb blasts at airports and major shopping malls, creating widespread alarm. The sender deliberately included the mobile number of a man named Mohit, who works with a Delhi-based consultancy firm, attempting to frame him as the perpetrator.
Interestingly, the threat emails did not demand any ransom. However, the inclusion of Mohit’s personal details, combined with previous cyber complaints registered in his name, initially drew police attention toward him, before the investigation revealed the actual suspect.

Cyber unit officials traced the emails to fake accounts created solely for sending the threats. Following a technical investigation, the accused, identified as Abhayashree, was arrested. Authorities revealed that the motive was personal revenge linked to a dispute between Abhayashree and Mohit over a mutual female acquaintance.
Further investigations showed that the accused had also attempted to lodge fraudulent complaints through apps like Swiggy while continuing to send the threatening emails, escalating the harassment and pressure on the victim. Police have confirmed that the suspect’s actions were aimed at falsely implicating Mohit in a criminal plot.
Delhi Police have stated that the investigation is ongoing to determine if any additional individuals were involved and to assess potential security lapses arising from the false threats. Authorities emphasized that such hoax activities are taken seriously given the potential risk to public safety and order.
