Raushan Sharma, a notorious criminal wanted in over 18 cases across Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal, was shot in the leg by police in Patna’s Phulwari Sharif area on Wednesday morning after attempting a bold escape from custody. The incident occurred in Kurkuri village while Sharma was being transported in a police van to apprehend his accomplices, part of a broader crackdown under Bihar’s “Operation Langda.”
According to Patna SSP Kartikeya K Sharma, the 35-year-old suspect, arrested earlier in Jehanabad, snatched a policeman’s weapon during transit and tried to flee. Officers responded with retaliatory fire, injuring Sharma in the leg. He was immediately rushed to a government hospital and later referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for advanced treatment. During interrogation, Sharma’s disclosures led police to bust a mini gun factory in Phulwari Sharif, recovering weapons and incriminating materials.
Sharma’s criminal record, spanning since 2004, includes charges of murder, loot, and dacoity, with recent involvement in a firing incident near Ramkrishna Nagar police station in Patna. The police have informed Jharkhand and West Bengal authorities of his arrest and are intensifying raids to capture his associates. The incident underscores the challenges of managing high-risk criminals amid Bihar’s ongoing efforts to curb escalating crime rates through targeted operations.
