In a chilling act of gang violence, five armed men stormed Paras Hospital in Patna on Thursday, July 17, 2025, fatally shooting notorious gangster Chandan Mishra in his ICU room. The brazen attack, captured on CCTV, showed the assailants casually entering Room 209, firing multiple rounds, and escaping without resistance. Mishra, a Buxar resident with 24 criminal cases, including a dozen murders, was on medical parole from Beur Jail and succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
CCTV footage later revealed three of the attackers fleeing on a single motorcycle, one brandishing a pistol and raising a hand in a gesture of triumph. Police have arrested Tauseef Badshah, a Phulwari Sharif resident, and identified the remaining four suspects, believed to be from the rival Chandan Sheru gang. Raids are underway across Patna, Phulwari Sharif, and Hajipur, with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and Bihar STF probing possible hospital security collusion.
The murder has intensified scrutiny on Bihar’s law-and-order situation, with recent high-profile killings, including businessman Gopal Khemka and BJP leader Surendra Kewat, fueling political tensions ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav slammed the Nitish Kumar-led JDU-BJP government, questioning, “Is anyone safe in Bihar?” Union Minister Chirag Paswan criticized the administration, stating, “Criminals are openly challenging the law.” Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha promised swift action, assuring that the culprits will face strict punishment.
