A B.Tech student from Andhra Pradesh died under shocking circumstances in Beeramguda, Sangareddy district, after an alleged assault inside his girlfriend’s home—an incident that has sent waves of outrage across Telangana. The victim, 19-year-old Kakani Jyothi Sravan from Penugranchiprolu village in Krishna district, had been pursuing his second year at Saint Peters Engineering College while living in a nearby hostel. Known among classmates as quiet and focused, Sravan had been navigating his education without parental support, having lost both mother and father at a young age.
Raised by his paternal uncle, K. Venkateshwara Rao, Sravan had been in a relationship with Tarupally Teja since their school days in Class X. The relationship endured for years despite repeated objections from both families, who cited caste differences as a primary concern. Friends of the couple say the two had remained emotionally close and continued to communicate frequently, even as parental pressure intensified. Police sources indicate that tensions within Teja’s family escalated in recent months as they attempted to end the relationship permanently.
On Tuesday, Sravan reportedly went to Teja’s home in Lakshminagar after she told him her parents wanted to speak with him, a meeting he believed might help ease the ongoing conflict. Instead, the situation took a violent turn. According to the police, a heated argument broke out between Teja and her mother, Srija, after renewed attempts to force the couple apart. During the confrontation, Srija allegedly began striking her daughter with a cricket bat. When Sravan attempted to intervene and shield Teja, the blows were redirected toward him, landing with significant force on his head and kidneys.

What followed has raised further alarm among investigators. While Teja was taken to a private hospital later that afternoon by her mother and brother, Sravan was left inside the house overnight, unattended and severely injured. Authorities say he remained without medical assistance for hours until his condition deteriorated sharply in the early morning. Only then was he rushed to another private hospital, where doctors declared him dead at 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Police officials say the nature and location of the injuries indicate a violent assault, not an accidental outcome.
The incident has been traced largely to caste-based opposition, which officers describe as a central factor behind the fatal escalation. Ameenpur police have registered a case and initiated a detailed inquiry into the circumstances leading to Sravan’s death, including the delay in securing medical help. Investigators are now collecting forensic evidence and statements from both families as the broader community grapples with the tragic consequences of a long-disputed relationship.
