In a shocking breach of sanctity, a man was detained at Puri’s revered Jagannath Temple on Tuesday for smuggling hidden cameras inside the 12th-century shrine, where photography and videography are strictly prohibited. The suspect, a local resident, was caught red-handed wearing glasses embedded with covert cameras, sparking outrage among devotees and authorities.
Security personnel at Beherana Dwara grew suspicious when a camera light flashed from the man’s glasses. A quick inspection confirmed the high-tech deception, leading to his immediate detention. Puri SP Pinaki Misra revealed that the man was whisked to Singhadwara police station for interrogation. Authorities are now investigating whether he captured any photos or videos inside the sacred premises, a serious violation of temple rules.
This brazen incident has raised alarms about security measures at one of India’s holiest sites, prompting calls for stricter vigilance to protect its sanctity.
