Maharashtra Cyber Police have registered a case against comedian Pranit More, web developer Himanshu Jangra, Dr Sejal Pawar and others over allegations of circulating obscene and objectionable content linked to a viral comedy show clip, officials confirmed on Thursday. The case has been filed under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act following a preliminary investigation into the content shared on social media platforms.
The controversy stems from a segment of a Gurugram-based comedy show hosted by More, where Jangra reportedly narrated a dating incident involving spending Rs 370 on biryani and making an inappropriate demand in exchange for sexual favours. The clip, which also shows More reacting to the remark, quickly went viral across platforms including YouTube and Instagram, drawing widespread criticism for its explicit and offensive nature.
Another clip from the same show featuring Dr Pawar allegedly included disrespectful remarks about medical cadavers and deceased male bodies used in academic settings. Cyber officials stated that the content appeared to have been deliberately circulated online to increase engagement and viewership, raising concerns about the misuse of digital platforms for provocative material.

Following the complaint and initial probe, the Nodal Cyber Police Station registered the FIR and summoned the accused individuals to record their statements. Authorities have also noted that the content was widely reshared across platforms, further amplifying its reach before action was initiated by law enforcement agencies.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has also taken suo motu cognisance of the matter, issuing summons to More and Jangra and seeking a detailed report from the Haryana Director General of Police within seven days. While the accused have reportedly issued public apologies and More has deactivated his social media account, legal proceedings in the case continue.
In response to the controversy, Maharashtra Cyber has issued an advisory urging content creators and influencers to ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards while producing online material. Officials also warned users against sharing or downloading the disputed clips, stating that circulation of obscene content online may attract strict legal consequences under applicable cyber and criminal laws.
