A cab driver was arrested in Noida after a harrowing incident where he held a family hostage during a high-speed chase to evade police, officials reported on Saturday. The driver, identified as Nasim, was apprehended after a viral video exposed his reckless actions, sparking outrage on social media.
On Thursday, Sanjay Mohan, his wife, and their four-year-old daughter booked a cab from Greater Noida to Delhi’s Connaught Place. Around 1:30 pm, at Parthala bridge, police signaled the driver to stop, but he sped off, jumping barricades. A chilling video recorded by the family captured their pleas to stop as their daughter cried in fear, with police sirens echoing in the background.
Ignoring the family’s requests, Nasim drove rashly for several kilometers, attempting to outrun a pursuing PCR van. He briefly stopped at TP Nagar, allowing the family to escape, before fleeing the scene. Mohan’s wife sustained minor hand injuries during the ordeal.

The video, which surfaced online on Friday, prompted swift action from Noida’s Phase 3 Police. Central Noida DCP Shakti Mohan Awasthy confirmed Nasim’s arrest near Sahara cut, with the Wagon R vehicle seized and a fine of Rs 29,500 issued. Two Aadhaar cards—one in the name of ‘Nasim’ and another ‘Sonu’—were recovered, raising suspicions of identity fraud.
A case has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges for kidnapping, wrongful confinement, rash driving, cheating, and forgery. The investigation continues to uncover the full extent of the driver’s motives and actions.
