A devastating accident in Daharpur Kala village, within the Dataganj police station limits of Budaun, Uttar Pradesh, claimed the life of a 70-year-old woman and left approximately 20 passengers injured on Wednesday. The private bus, traveling from Dataganj to Budaun, lost control, overturned, and plunged into a water-filled ditch, according to local police.
The deceased woman’s identity remains unconfirmed, and among the injured, a child is in critical condition. District Magistrate Avneesh Rai reported, “Preliminary investigations suggest the driver may have dozed off, leading to the crash.” The injured were promptly transported to Dataganj Primary Health Centre and Budaun District Hospital for treatment, with some sustaining minor injuries and others in serious condition.
Police and local residents swiftly initiated rescue operations at the scene. The bus driver and helper fled post-accident, prompting authorities to launch an inquiry to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the tragedy. This incident underscores ongoing concerns about road safety in the region.
