Three personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) were killed in a tragic IED blast while performing duty in the Kanker district of Chhattisgarh. The incident occurred during an anti-Maoist operation as security forces were conducting an area domination patrol in a remote region, underscoring the ongoing security challenges in the Bastar division.
According to preliminary reports, the improvised explosive device (IED) was planted by Maoist insurgents specifically targeting security personnel. The explosion was triggered as the patrol team crossed a vulnerable patch of the forest, resulting in fatal injuries to three DRG soldiers. Local authorities have cordoned off the site, and additional reinforcements have been dispatched to the area to launch a search and rescue operation to locate the perpetrators.
The DRG, a specialized force comprised primarily of local tribal youth, is at the forefront of counter-insurgency efforts in Chhattisgarh. Their deep knowledge of the local terrain and culture makes them highly effective in navigating the challenging jungles of the Bastar region. However, they frequently face significant risks from hidden explosives, which remain a primary tactic used by insurgent groups to hinder the mobility of security forces.

Government officials and senior police leadership have condemned the attack, reiterating their commitment to maintaining law and order while continuing efforts to neutralize insurgent threats. The loss of these personnel highlights the high cost of the state's efforts to ensure peace and development in the region’s most underdeveloped districts.
As investigations continue, the local administration is prioritizing the medical and logistical support required for the victims' families. The security apparatus in Chhattisgarh remains on high alert, with officials emphasizing that such incidents will not deter the ongoing efforts to secure the region. Further updates are expected as authorities provide more details regarding the tactical response and the identities of the martyred personnel.
