India’s Ambassador to Qatar, Vipul, participated in a community condolence meeting organised in Doha to pay tribute to Qatar’s former Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who passed away on July 12 at the age of 74. The event was organised by community organisations functioning under the aegis of the Embassy of India.
The Embassy of India in Doha said community leaders and members expressed their condolences over the demise of the former Qatari leader and remembered his contributions towards strengthening ties with the expatriate community. The embassy highlighted Sheikh Hamad’s leadership and his support for the Indian community in Qatar, describing his goodwill as a legacy that would be remembered.
“Ambassador H.E. Vipul and community leaders and members expressed heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of His Highness Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and remembered the leadership and benevolence of His Highness towards the expatriate community,” the Embassy of India said in a statement shared on social media.

India also sent a high-level delegation to Qatar to convey official condolences following Sheikh Hamad’s death. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju visited Qatar and conveyed condolences on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government of India, and the people of the country to Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Rijiju described Sheikh Hamad as a visionary leader who played an important role in developing the historic relationship between India and Qatar into a strategic partnership. He said the former Amir’s contributions would continue to inspire efforts to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
India observed a day of national mourning in honour of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. The national flag at the Rashtrapati Bhavan and other government buildings in New Delhi was flown at half-mast as a mark of respect for Qatar’s former ruler and his role in promoting India-Qatar relations.
