Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Wednesday expressed deep grief over the killing of Executive Officer Krishna Bhushan Kumar, who was shot dead in a violent incident at the Sultanganj Nagar Parishad office in Bhagalpur district. The Chief Minister described the incident as “extremely tragic” and paid tribute to the officer’s dedication and service to the public.
Choudhary announced an ex gratia assistance of ₹25 lakh for the family of the deceased officer and confirmed that the last rites would be conducted with full state honours. In his message on social media platform X, he said Krishna Bhushan Kumar had shown exceptional commitment to duty and made the “supreme sacrifice” while serving the administration.
Extending condolences to the bereaved family, the Chief Minister said the state stands firmly with them in this difficult time. He added, “May God grant peace to the departed soul and provide strength to the family members to bear this irreparable loss.” The government also assured strict action against those responsible for the attack.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday afternoon, involved three armed assailants who entered the municipal office and opened fire inside the chamber of the Executive Officer. Krishna Bhushan Kumar died on the spot, while Municipal Chairman Raj Kumar alias Guddu sustained critical injuries and is currently undergoing treatment in hospital.
In a major development following the case, the prime accused Ramdhani Yadav was killed in a police encounter on Wednesday after what officials described as an attempted escape during a weapon recovery operation. Police said Yadav opened fire on the team, prompting retaliatory firing in self-defence, during which he was critically injured and later declared dead at a hospital. The incident has triggered strong political reactions in the state, with leaders trading allegations over law and order in Bihar. While the government has vowed strict action against all involved, the encounter and the earlier shooting have heightened concerns over rising violent crime and security of public officials in the region.
